“We’ve really enjoyed our week in our luxurious “eyrie” in the sky, overlooking the spectacular Torridon mountains. We’ve been visiting the area for about 40 years, but have never had views like this. Truly memorable and such a pleasure. We almost didn’t bother going out at all! We did some lovely walks on the Applecross Peninsula, including the historic old path from Arrina to Cuaig, and Sand to Applecross and the Shieldaig Peninsula walk. The Torridon Smokehouse sells amazing smoked salmon. We were treated to seeing an eagle, dolphins, porpoises and more. So many happy memories and photos to take home.”

The anticipation, counting down for weeks to walk through that front door, and then there’s the huge wrench at having to leave at the end of the week – the bit in the middle, an oasis of calm! “It was wonderful to stay at Creag na h-Iolaire again, this time trading the early summer for moody & dramatic autumn. We stayed cosy with the log burner during Storm Amy, taking in the windswept views. Plenty of wildlife spotting to be done once the weather calmed down a wee bit – loads of seals, pairs of otters, cormorant shags, and a tiny red squirrel right outside the window. The sunny days were spent exploring the Applecross peninsula, checking out the Walled Garden Café & spotting deer off the Bealach na Bà. “How excited we were to be returning to Craig na h-iolaire after a fantastic trip last year. What a joy to walk through the front door again and be overcome by the majesty of the place, the decompression was instant. We had been praying to the weather gods and wow, did they listen! A week of unbroken sunshine, can't quite believe our luck. The light as the sun sets is quite sensational, the whole view then taking on a mystical hue of blue - beyond special. So lucky we were to see the elusive pine marten darting in front of the house one evening after dusk. Several sea eagle sightings too, much to the annoyance of the gull colony on the wee island to the left.

“The best ever fortnight’s holiday ever, anywhere! The house is awesome and the location sublime. If climbing Munros isn't your thing then these were some of our highlights: Shieldaig peninsula walk, Loch Clair walk, and the walk to Coral Beach south of Applecross. We loved the drives to Lochcarron, Applecross and most of all Diabaig. Other highlights have been Nanny’s for the best cheese scones and cake. Watching sea eagles for over an hour perching and flying around the island to the left. Seals playing and the fabulously the northern lights and a special phenomenon known as Steve! We have had some sun each day, despite some depressing forecasts. The fire has warmed us on a chilly evening and we loved waking to snow on the peaks several days in a row. We have had the best time ever, thank you!”

“Where to start? The ever-changing clouds, the ever-changing light, looking over the inlet, with a book, a cup of tea, a G&T, listening to Vivaldi, the hits of the 70s, Katie Melua. Walking the Torridon glen & hills and having lunch at waterfalls, photographing the bothy in Glencarron with light that could not be better. Having coffee at Nanny’s, lunch at the seafood bar at Kishorn, again coffee at the Coast Café in Gairloch and a lovely walk to the waterfall… We had the best week!!! “Everything about Craeg na h-iolaire surpassed our expectations. A magical place to wake up to each morning and watch the ever shifting light across the water and mountains, waiting for seals to come out and bask on the rocks once the tide had ebbed. One morning we were lucky enough to spot a pair of otters splashing about and chasing each other right in front of the house. Plenty of seabird action to track through the telescope each day. It was hard to tear ourselves away from this stunning house, but the local area had loads to offer from woodland walks and delicious lunch at the Torridon hotel, to a beautiful (and mountainous) drive to Lower Diabaig for a lovely dinner at Gille Brighde. Truly a Highland Haven we won't soon forget!”
